Get started (work in progress)

Your setup, your choice.

spectacled works with any CalDAV-compatible server, so the first step is making sure you have one. There are two starting points, depending on where you are already:

1. Choose a CalDAV server

If you already use a CalDAV/CardDAV server — for example through Nextcloud, Baikal, Radicale, or a hosting provider – you’re ready to go; skip to step 2.

If you don’t have one yet, here are a few well-tested options to start with:

  • TODO!!!!
  • [Nextcloud — self-hosted or managed],
  • [Baikal — lightweight, self-hosted],
  • [Radicale — minimal, self-hosted],
  • [a hosted CalDAV provider you recommend].

Several offer free tiers or trials, so you can try spectacled without any commitment.

2. Install an app

Pick the app (or apps) you want to use – Journals, Notes, and/or Tasks are available for Android, iOS, desktop, and web. See the Download page for links and current availability on each platform.

3. Connect your account

Open the app, enter your CalDAV server address and login details, and spectacled will discover your existing collections automatically. Your entries start syncing immediately – nothing is copied to a spectacled-run server at any point.
